Collection: Tea Cups

In China, The Traditional way of drinking tea was using what is called Jian zhan (建盏), which translates as "Jian (tea)cup". The original kiln used to make these was called Jian Yao (建窑). The original prefecture where it came from was then renamed into Jianzhou (建州) in 621 CE during the Tang dynasty.

Today, this art of making Jian Zhan has been revived and has become very popular here in the USA. The clay is high in iron and the glazes used is all natural products.

 As you use the teaware, it will season and thus add to the flavor of the tea you are drinking. You only was the teaware with hot water. No soap is to be used or you can damage them.

 

 At times we import high quality Chinaware. This is a white porcelain made in China by craftsman in small batches. These products are not the cheap versions found in many large scale stores which are made in high volumes.

 

Each Cup is unique in how they are made. Each one is hand made and in some cases hand painted or carved. No machines are used to make these items. These are true collectors items.
